So, we don't know what it is? I've had it 20 years and it was used as an ash tray for many before that at a time when you could smoke in a factory so I'm of the opinion that it is pre 1970's. However, there is a lot of brass in it so would it have escaped being melted down during WW2?

Cartridge case for the Russian M-46 130mm calibre field gun. The separate loaded case has a larger mouth diameter than the projectile. Online search will tell you more about the gun.

The primer has the classic Russian key holes, and the head stamp is Russian (nothing like British or French) showing the case made 1987. The primer is 1988.
