I was looking through some photos the other day of RFC officers and noticed the lack of waist seam. As I said, most but not all. Maybe the later change came from this direction? Funnily enough I have an SD of the exact age 1923 in whipcord With regard to whipcord, it is still the prefered fabric of artillery, and some cavalry.
