Hi Guys,

The only thing on the back of the photo is "Photo taken by F. Deakin, 121 Snargate St., Dover"

That's it I'm afraid.

Frederick Deakin was at 121 Snargate Street from 1892-1909 according to Dover Museum records

It seems possible that the sapper in the OP was an RE Volunteer from the unit that later became No 1 (Dover) Electric Light Company of the Cinque Ports Fortress Royal Engineers, 16 Bench Street, Dover, Kent.

Not much is known about this unit.
