SPotter Posted 23 August , 2010 Share Posted 23 August , 2010 I spent some time looking on Ancestry last night and didn't find anything. I am using my iPod so it is not the easiest search! You state he was still serving In 1919, his MIC shows he transferred to the RGA in 1917 - any idea as to when he was discharged?
yeti Posted 23 August , 2010 Author Share Posted 23 August , 2010 Thanks for taking the time to look. The dates I know are: 09/09/1904 Attested at Gillingham Dorset. Regimental number 7441. January 1905 Transfer to RFA. Regimental number 35033. 03/10/07 To India with 14th Battery 4th Brigade ( I think with 4th Brigade although later certificates are signed by commanding officer of 9th Brigade ?) October 1914 Arrived F & F with 7th Meerut. December 1915 To Mesopotamia. 17/02/17 Transferred from RFA to RGA now a BQMS. Regimental number now 147902. Feb to June 1917 FAO, Iraq 17/06/17 Bombay, India June to Aug 1917 Agra Fort, India Oct 1917 to Jan 1918 Mhow, India Left India February 1918 April 1918 to December 1919 Straits Settlement, Singapore 24/02/1920 Dispersal notice 22/03/20 Demobilization certificate I am fortunate to have various certificates and a pay book to confirm these dates ... I am building a time line but it is an uphill struggle to work out his deployments in detail. I am considering looking at the RFA 4th Brigade war diaries at Kew .. Do you think this is likely to be worthwhile ? I have not tried the National Archives before. Thanks Dave
