I was searching these forums for information to do my research project that I have to complete for my history class. However, I have searched many hours for my soldiers information, but because he is from New Zealand he is very difficult to find information on. From what I saw from this post: (http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145000), I was informed to message ‘acnnolly’ to ask about New Zealand War Diaries from the Otago Regiment. I tried to, but the forum restricted me from doing any messaging or pming. Can anybody help? Below is the info on my soldier so far...

Name: Francis Alexander Dunn

From: 1st Battalion., Otago Regiment, N.Z.E.F.

Nationality: New Zealand

Rank: Private

Age: 26

Date of Death: 23/10/1918

Service No: 40914

Additional information: Son of John and Georgina Christie Dunn, of Ardwick St., Gore, Southland, New Zealand.

Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead

Grave/Memorial Reference: IV. C. 11.

Cemetery: ROMERIES COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION

If you could find pages from his war diaries, birth record, census record, medal index card, service records or any information on his life at all, please e-mail me or respond back to this post a.s.a.p.

my e-mail: andr015@yahoo.com

Thank you,

Eenie,

I expect you already know that his personnel file is available at archives New Zealand. Some files have been digitized, but not this one unfortunately, and it can take a long time to get one ordered and delivered. I guess you don't live in Wellington.

It might be worth while looking at the history of his regiment here for some background information.

Some New Zealanders may be along to help later.

Good luck!

No Iam in the U.S.

By the way, thanks to everyone replying quick!

I will try out these suggested sites, but does anyone know how to pm? Because I can't. If you can, please pm ‘acnnolly’ and ask him if he has war diaries on the 1st battalion Otago regiment.

Thanks again,

eenie15

Hi,

KiwiBob - I believe you still have to pay the $25 for WW1 NZEF Service Records - unless something has changed, in which case wooohooo!!!! - If the record has already been paid for then it's free for anyone to download once uploaded to the Arhives site.

Cheers
