Hello, my great uncle Lionel Franks was nursed in No.8 General Hospital, following injuries sustained at Arras in 1917.  His wounds were very serious and he sadly died.  Lionel was a second lieutenant, aged just 19.

Does anyone know how to access the treatment records during his time at the hospital?

Many thanks, Jon Livingstone

You would probably have more luck finding rocking horse excrement than 100+ year old 'treatment records'.

I assume this is Lionel Franks East Yorkshire Regiment  his file is at TNA https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C695696

which may give details of his wounds.

It's usually less expensive to hire a researcher to copy the file for you rather than the TNA estimate, but most of the officer files have been weeded.

I see from the war diary 4th Battalion that 17 officers (and 352 other ranks) became casualties on the 23rd April so he passed up the casualty evacuation chain. I can find nothing of note in the MH/106 records.

The war diary for no 8 General Hospital has this:-

Seems to be some confusion as to whether he was 4th or 8th Bn

Many thanks, I am sure you are right, this far distant from WW1!

The war diary entry is interesting and confirms other sources.
