Remembered Today:

My Granddad's Service Papers

Hi,

The extract below is taken from my Granddad's Service papers, and in particular his Casualty Form - Active Service.

The previous diagnosis, not included in the extract is 'Shock'. I presume this was why he was sent home, although it could have been a touch of Trench Fever as I understand that this ailment was a reaction, in part, to being lousy, and an entry a little way above that is for 'Scabies'

So, this entry, he was being sent from No 2 General Hospital, to England, via 49th Div Base Depot. That much is clear, but what exactly is the classification at the end of the line, and what does it mean?

My Granddad was 2253 (later 268259) Rifleman (later Corporal) Fred Kilkenny, 1/8 (Leeds Rifles) Bn, West Yorkshire Regiment.

Cheers,

Nigel

That's great,

Thanks very much. It fits in with his later service too as he remained in England and later Ireland for the rest of the war and was disembodied in early 1919.

Another small bit of the jigsaw slotted in.

Cheers,

Nigel
