spike10764 Posted 7 June , 2006 Author Share Posted 7 June , 2006 Here's my effort. I'm fitting out my house extension at present-and for the forseeable-so I may not have much time to draw -it takes me long enough to do so. This months is a poem entitled The Fissure The Fissure "Tonight boys ,we're on a raid" The young Lieutenant said, And all our section looked around, Wondering which of us was dead. " We must be Lords of No Mans Land", "On the Boche impose our will", For some the cold dark grip of fear, For some the chance to kill. We met in a dark fissure, Cast adrift between the lines. I looked and saw his fear and rage, He looked back and he saw mine. Not for me my youthful stories, Of the Charge of the Light Brigade. Just two mens careful circling, With entrenching tool and blade, A slip, upon the angled slime, For once, his speed was less than mine..... He looked up at me, clutching, His kith and kin displayed. Tears in my eyes, I raised my arm, And hit him with a spade..... Years later, I came to visit, The places I once knew. Shed tears for the Hun, my Mates, the War, And the things it had me do. Hey ho, back to building a partition wall
