harlor Posted 9 September , 2005 Share Posted 9 September , 2005 I know this is a stab in the dark but I have hit a brick wall and any info will be helpful. My Great Grandfather William Henry Collins adopted from within his family unofficially two sons. One was Albert Hunt who enlisted in the Sherwood Foresters in 1914/15 at the age of 23/24 years, he lived on Whittington Moor, Chesterfield and would have enlisted at either Chesterfield or Derby. I know he was killed in the war but have no year of death. William Henry Collins won the DCM and survived the war and lived to be 81 years old, the other adopted son CSM Edward Else MM was killed in action in France in 1917. Hopefully someone out there has some information to get me going again.

harlor Posted 11 September , 2005 Author Share Posted 11 September , 2005 Many thanks for your excellent information, the Albert Hunt born on Whittington Moor sounds right as that is where he was born and his family moved to Kirby in Ashfield. The Sherwood Forester connection came from my Father who is now 85 years old. Many thanks William Henry Collins MIC: Medal card of Collins, William H Corps Regiment No Rank Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment 48063 Acting Corporal Labour Corps 16333 Acting Corporal http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...1&resultcount=1 He may have transferred to the Labour Corps later in the war due to his age.
