Jack Spencer - Hatton War Memorial - Wrong Man Selected

Page 74 of Warwickshire Roll of Honour selected Pte 155729 Jack Spencer of 30th Battalion Machine Gun Corps who was born, raised and enlisted in Nuneaton and Stockingford. However we could find no link, whatsoever, to the Hatton area and in his family continued to live in the Stockingford area after he died and sp we suspected that he was chosen because he lived closest.

We believe that the Jack Spencer named on the memorial is Able Seaman J/16315 Wilfred Jack Henry SPENCER - HMS Diligence (HMS Onslaught), Royal Navy who
Accidentally Drowned on 29th October 1917 aged 21 (see separate forum post earlier today)

We chose Wilfred Jack Spencer because in the 1911 Census his family, father Wilfred, mother Anna and two siblings were living at Brownslow Green, Hatton which gives us the link to Hatton, and we believe the reason why this Jack Spencer is the one named on the memorial.
