Russell Smith Posted 23 April , 2008 Share Posted 23 April , 2008 Value study for an upcoming tripe painting. Rather than doing my value studies on the same inked-in line drawing which I use for my perspective (as I used to do), I've started overlaying the perspective drawing with a sheet of translucent vellum and doing it on that. Really makes for a nice drawing in and of itself. Ltn. Rudolf Klimke Jasta 27 13.5" x 21.5" pencil on vellum russ
59165 Posted 23 April , 2008 Share Posted 23 April , 2008 Russ, the older generation here in the UK still love tripe. Do you rub it on the paper/canvas to give it an oily sheen? My Granny used to soak it in milk
Waddell Posted 24 April , 2008 Share Posted 24 April , 2008 Russ, Lovely drawing. Sorry to sound ignorant, but what exactly is a tripe painting? Regards, Scott
Primary Source Posted 24 April , 2008 Share Posted 24 April , 2008 Great piece of art! I can hear the roar of the engine and see the village folk staring up in wonder. Some of us can make art while others can only appreciate it. Sadly I am in the second group. Keep up the great work and thanks for posting. Russell Smith Posted 24 April , 2008 Author Share Posted 24 April , 2008 You got an idea on colour scheme yet? Dave. Thanks so much, everyone, for your compliments. Dave the triplane will be in a sharp bank over its airfield and the sun will be coming in low. The colors for the background will be soft pastel-ish earth tones (that may be an oxymoron). Klimke's tripe was olive streaked over clear doped linen with yellow struts cowl and empennage. I'll post the color study when it is completed.
