Remembered Today:

Gambia - war cemetery

I am being forced to take my wife to the Gambia next week. She wants some sun in a country that doesn't have battlefields or war cemeteries - can't think why. :P

Fortunately I have discovered that Gambia has Fajara War Cemetery plus a Memorial to the Missing in Banjul. No doubt things can be arranged so that we just happen upon these places, so if any Pal wants a photo from there, I'd be happy to oblige. Fajara is WW2 commemorations only I believe, but the Banjul memorial is to the missing of the RWAFF who enlisted in Gambia in the Great War. Photos will be digital and passed on via the web if poss.

Terry Denham - I've got a note of Stilwell. :)

Requests in by 20th Feb perlease!

Thanks Richard

There are three CWGC sites in Gambia....

The Gambia Memorial with 37 WW1 commemorations, The Fajara War Cemetery Memorial Tablet with 33 WW2 commemorations

and Fajara War Cemetery with 200 WW2 Commonwealth burials plus three Foreign Nationals and nine Non-World War graves in CWGC care.
