Remembered Today:

In the footsteps of the RFC

I'm going to visit the Pas de Calais / Picardy region in a few weeks, and was curious to see where some of the RFC areodromes were located. I've more-or-less found Filescamp Farm (or at least Izel-les-Hameaux) and Estree Blanche on Google maps. Does anyone have any suggestions for aerodromes that might have supported the 3rd Ypres Battle, for instance? Thanks!

You might look out for a copy of Airfields & Airmen - Ypres by Mike O'Connor, ISBN 0 85052 753 8 which is packed with information on the aerodromes of the area.

Cheers

If you're really keen, Mike O'Connor also wrote:

Airfields & Airmen - Arras, ISBN 1 84415 125 5;

Airfields & Airmen - Cambrai, ISBN 1 84415 958 1;

Airfields & Airmen - Channel Coast, ISBN 1 84415 258 8;

Airfields & Airmen - Somme, ISBN 0 85052 864 X.

They're all excellent.
