royalredcross Posted 11 March , 2008 Share Posted 11 March , 2008 Sister M. Cockrill went to Serbia with the Serbian Relief Fund Unit No. 3 led by Mrs. St.Clair Stobart. This unit arrived at Salonika 17 April 1915 and establisged a hospital at Kragujevac. Stobart later took part in the retreat of the Serbian army through Albania and it is possible that Cockrill accompanied her. On the roll of the BWM and Victory for this unit her name is marked HO - Accepting Albanian Medal. This referes to the practice of refusing the BWM & Vict to anyone accepting a foreign commemmorative medal. Albanian Medal almost certainly refers to the Serbian medal for the retreat through Albania. I also note a Sister Cockrill who served again in Serbia from July 1918 to March 1923.
