Hi Everyone,

Thanks for taking the time to have a look. I wonder if anyone knows what the following attachment means; it appears on my GGdad's service records. The same is written on his discharge papers and I need a bit of help to understand what it means- Is it a regiment number or something else? Ed's service number was 41019. Do you think it could be something to do with his hospital records? Ed was discharged from Blandford [no longer fit for duty]] in Dec 1918.

Hello Ruth, welcome to the `Flying Section' of the Forum.

In the form you have sent RAFR = Royal Air Force Reserve followed by his Number.

As to the rest some other `Flyer' may come up with answer.

All the best Sadsac

Looks like, File Number A.9 or g,6 R/D 12201.

Anthony.

Ruth, following on Anthony - if RD this `could' mean Reserve Decoration !!!

Worth a `sniff' in gongs file.

Ruth

RD quite often means "Returned to Depot", if so this might have been a paper posting, that is those posted to Blandford might not actually served there but that Blandford tidied up the paper work on discharge.

Ruth, re `gongs file' - sorry I do not know where the RAF ones are contained, although bags you try Fleet Air Arm Museum, who seem to have most info on RAF.

I also suspect that John g's posting re RD being `Returned Depot' is much more likely.

Sorry to be a `don't knower'

Hi John,

Yes I have heard this about Blandford. I do think you are right and it is just a matter of tidying up the paper work. I do know at some time He [Ed] was in Druids cross hospital in Liverpool.

Thanks John
