I'm trying to trace a relative of my sister in law, a RFC man called Lt James Alexander Donnelly, alleged to have died on the last day of the RFC. He lies in Doullens Cemetery Extention No 1 beside another flier who died on the first day of the RAF. Can anyone tell me anything about his loss, about the action he was participating in, etc? A photo of him, or of his grave, would be great.

I appreciate it's a tall order, actually a cry for help, but I have great faith in the resourcefiul of the Pals.

Thanks in anticipation.

regards

2Lt J A Donnelly, an Equipment Officer with No 59 Sqn RFC, died of wounds on 31 March 1918 - the last day of the RFC - from wounds received on 28 March while he was visiting an artillery battery. He was aged 44, and a native of Belfast, Co Antrim, Ireland.

No 59 Sqn was an army co-operation unit equipped with the RE 8.

I hope that this helps.

I got this photo of Donnelly. He's on the right, the one behind the dog. I hope it may be of some use to you.

Thank you for that. I'll put a copy in the appropriate page of Airmen Died.
