Hi there

During a previous topic of mine, Jim Grundy kindly provided the folowing information:

"According to "The Sky Their Battlefield" by Trevor Henshaw, Lt. Ganter was serving with 73 Squadron, flying Sopwith Camels, when he was killed in action on 27th June 1918. He took off at 0845 to take part in an offensive patrol south west of Lille when he was shot down in combat with enemy aircraft."

Does anyone know if a german airman claimed the kill?

Cheers Emma

Ltn Friedrich-Karl Weber of Jasta 29 claimed a Camel [the third of his eventual four victories - though his first as a single seater pilot] over Hantay at 1110 on 27 June, but this seems a little late for it to have been Lt Ganter in C8249, even allowing for the 1 hour difference between British and German time.

There don't seem to be any other German fighter claims that fit the information relating to Lt Ganter's loss. Perhaps he fell victim to either a two seater crew or anti-aircraft fire.

Regards

Gareth
