robert_sfl Posted 5 March , 2008 Share Posted 5 March , 2008 I wonder what the story of this aprox. 1:2,5 airplane model is? There are officers at the scene, so perhaps its a demonstration for the army? No date/writing on backside, could be post-war as well.
centurion Posted 5 March , 2008 Share Posted 5 March , 2008 Looks like one of the Siemens Schuckert Torpedogleiter glider bombs developed for the Siemens Schuckert R planes. Over a hundred were built of various sizes cultimating in ones capable of carrying a 1,000 kg charge. Tested from Zeppelins and working up for service when the war ended. The one in the photo looks like one of the early models (C 1916). They were radio controlled and the later models had a range of about 7 km (experiments with wire guidance were also carried out). robert_sfl Posted 6 March , 2008 Author Share Posted 6 March , 2008 Thanks for the info! I did some googling and found that this is a real interesting subject. Regretable there is not much info out there about the WW1 Torpedogleiters. Do you know any good books or other sources?
