A Dr Zarko Vukovic is The man in Serbia for history of the SWH and co; he has a small museum dedicated to them.

I have an address which may be out of date

17/1 Ho Si Minova

11070 Novi Beograd Serbia

if you write he would probably appreciate a interantional reply coupon

.Otherwise perhaps via British Southern Slav Society.

The Times newspaper is all on line and can be accessed foc via your library at home.

Do not overlook such journals of the time as Illustrated London News; the Sphere and the Graphic. all contain a lot of illustrations and useful content.

The gratitude the Serbs still feel for the efforts we put in out there at a terrible time for them is very touching. There is no doubt in my mind Bush and co bombed the wrong country, but thats getting O/T.

All throught the truama of the great retreat no British unit was left to stave or go with out basic care, and on the great retreat no British nurse died, even tho the Serbs were dying in droves.

When the SWH got home via Italy and France they were treated as heroes and fed and transported home free of charge.

when they returned home the then govt gave them a bill for their train fares thome.

not much changes does it?
