SKBob Posted 13 February , 2008 Author Share Posted 13 February , 2008 Thanks for that, very interesting and useful for some of the stuff I am doing. I am really trying to find info on the hospital and CCS set up for the Middle East theatre, especially the battles for Gaza. It has been suggested to me that 69th GH was at Alexandria and the CCS numbers I quoted somewhere in that part of the world ? At the moment I am not finding a lot - any suggestions ? BJanman Posted 13 February , 2008 Share Posted 13 February , 2008 No 69 General Hospital arrived in Egypt from the UK on the 19th August 1917. I have found a reference to it being with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force - on the Palestine LOC. 1917-18 but nothing so far about it being located in Alexandria. No 15 and No 17 General Hospitals were there. A quick flick through the Official History hasn't revealed much but I can look deeper and come back to you. BJanman Posted 15 February , 2008 Share Posted 15 February , 2008 Bob I've had a look through the OH. It advises that No 69 General Hospital arrived in Egypt during August 1917 and went to Deir-el-Belah. There is mention of it still being there in 1918, and the final mention of it (both after the battles of Gaza) is on the Palestine L of C., east of the Suez Canal. I also looked for the CCSs you quoted. You may be aware, but just in case your not I though it best to advise that between 1916 - 1917 some of the CCS number changed. No 53 was re-designated No 65 and No 54 became No 66, both in July 1917. Around the same time four new CCSs were organized, one of which was No 74. No 66 and No 74 CCSs were also located at Deir-el-Belah. I hope that helps Barbara
