pmaasz Posted 10 February , 2008 Share Posted 10 February , 2008 I have a book called The Dardanelles, Norman Wilkinson, Longmans Green 1916 which contains superb watercolour paintings of the conflict especially the ships. The fly-leaf is inscribed: B.H.P.Palliser from (I think) RFEP, presumably Palliser, with the note : The illustrations are very like the reality. This indicates that the donor was there and possibly a ship's officer. Who was he? Anyone know anything about the Pallisers?

" If the first initial were an 'A' (and not an 'R'), then that being so, the book may have been given by, and inscribed by, this chap see SUPPLEMENT TO The London Gazette Of FRIDAY, the 23rd of MARCH, 1917. The KING has also been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Distinguished Service Cross to the undermentioned Officers:— Lieut. Arthur Francis Eric Palliser, R.N, SUPPLEMENT TO THE LONDON GAZETTE, 23 MARCH, 1917. 2953 The following Decorations have been conferred by the Allied Powers on Officers and Men of the British Naval Forces for distinguished services rendered during the war: — DECORATIONS CONFERRED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE FRENCH REPUBLIC.
