Can anyone help with a breakdown of approximate casualty figures (Deaths) for the British, Australian, New Zealand and French forces engaged at Gallipoli? Many thanks Neil.

I think there may be some different casualty figures out there especially when it comes to the Indian & Turkish figures, but according to Alan Moorehead

the Australians had 8709 killed

the New Zealnders 2701 killed;

the British 21255 killed

the French 9874 killed

the Indians 7594 killed &

Turkish 86692

You might want to check the AWM website to see if these figures are still correct

Neil,

re those who fell at Gallipoli, a U.S. member of The Gallipoli Association,

Patrick Gareipy, has been researching this subject for several years now and the Autumn 2001, No.96, edition of 'The Gallipolian' gave his latest figures (alas not includuing French or Turks)

British 29134

Australian 8520

New Zealand 2806

Indian 1891

Newfoundland 45

Ceylon 4

Others 29

TOTAL 42429

'Others' comprise

Zion Mule Corps 14

Greek Labour Corps 11

Guides & Interpreters 3

Maltese Labour Corps 1

Patrick currently has a further 102 possible casualties who are the subject of further research and verification. I understand that his figures include not only those who died on the peninsula but also those who died at sea,

or of their wounds in such places as Egypt, Malta or UK

Drummy,

I found a web-site called "Shooting-Match" at www.geocities. com/ `worldwar1/gallipoli.html It deals with casualties in that theater of operations. However, I do not know how they authenticated the information. The site in question has numerous pictures. - Hope it helps.

Regards, John
