Wingdk Posted 1 February , 2008 Share Posted 1 February , 2008 For many years my "expertise" was in collecting WW2 RAF and Commonwealth Air Force items, mainly insignia but also some flying gear. Years ago I found these goggles which look like the so-called RAF Mk 11's but without the fur trim and tinted otherwise almost identical. Someone convinced me that these goggles were WW1 issue, RFC flying personnel, for the use of. Can anyone confirm this? I have no available reference material (only WW2 stuff). I did find an identical pair on a dealer website with a US WW1 flying helmet, listed of course as US issue! Then there are others that state that these are private purchase or motorcycle goggles, am I confused? YES! Anyway, the goggles have been well used and look the part, but what are they? Cheers, Derek
Starlight Posted 1 February , 2008 Share Posted 1 February , 2008 Hi, First World War I'd say. Here's a photo of a WW1 pilot wearing very similar goggles. Starlight
scottmarchand Posted 2 February , 2008 Share Posted 2 February , 2008 Sorry, 1930's WW 2 era army drivers goggles. Often mistaken as WW I MK I's, the grey elastic webbing strap, and lense color are a give away. This pattern of lense was widely used by the army.
