Terry Denham Posted 23 January , 2008 Share Posted 23 January , 2008 CWGC added the following 'new' WW1 casualty to its Debt of Honour database today – Wednesday 23rd January. Pte William Edward MAYALL 14892 1 Bn, Manchester Regt Died 13.07.19 Age 40 Buried: Hong Kong (Happy Valley) Colonial Cemetery, China NOT FORGOTTEN This casualty was put forward by GWF on behalf of myself on 31.08.07. He was found when I glanced through a list of non-world war graves in this cemetery. A small number appeared to be servicemen who died within the WW1 qualifying dates and so I checked them all. All but this one turned out to be the graves of ex-servicemen who died after discharge of non-war related causes but MAYALL was not. His death certificate proved that he was still a serving soldier at the time of his death. Even though his grave was already being cared for by CWGC, he has now been brought in from the cold and given war grave status. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I research the name Mayall in the Oldham area, and wish to thank you for puting William onto the CWGC database, I had details of his life, but can now honour him the details of his service and death.
