Remembered Today:

Help to ID fabric from English Aircraft

I recently acquired a small section of aircraft fabric that was taken as a souvenir by an American LT in April of 1919.

In a letter describing the souvenir he says it was from "an English airoplane which the Boche had downed and dragged behind a machine gun factory here in Longinfon". I would assume that the actual city is Lingen, but I may be wrong.

The fabric, which he says is from the wing, has the following in black ink on it near a silver rivet (just after the bottom "A.":

W/T

W.A. 7158.

A.M.A.

Can anyone provide any information on the type of aircraft based on this information?

The fabric is an even tanish color with the writing in a very dark brown or black.

Any information at all is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Scott
