mhifle Posted 17 January , 2008 Share Posted 17 January , 2008 I am researching a soldier who was invalided ’Home’ from Alexandria on the 11th November 1915 and I am looking for the possible name of the Transport he might have travelled on. I was wondering if anyone had any names of any Transports leaving Alexandria for ‘Home’ on that date or just afterwards. Thanks Mark

Intrados Posted 3 February , 2008 Share Posted 3 February , 2008 The only two ships I know carrying troops around that time were the Ormonde (survived the war) and Arcadian ( torpedoed during the war) not much but maybe a start !

mhifle Posted 23 February , 2008 Author Share Posted 23 February , 2008 Thanks for the name. I am trying to work out a way to narrow it down to around that date just after 11th Nov 1915. Which is the date he is posted Home. Regards Mark
ororkep Posted 26 February , 2008 Share Posted 26 February , 2008 Shipping in and out of Alexandria is recorded in a NA file. Hospital ships are specifically mentioned, see attached sample segment from Nov 1916. Its so long since I had it out I cant even remember its reference, but its part of the harbour master / docks files for Alex, Med Exped Forces. It’s a huge box and no good asking the NA to quote as they wont even find what your after in the file as its so jumbled up, you need to go yourself. rgds
