Terry Carter Posted 15 January , 2008 Share Posted 15 January , 2008 A Birmingham Pal I am researching died of sickness in February 1918 at Fir Vale Hospital, Sheffield. Would this have been a special hospital for certain types of diseases? Terry

edwin astill Posted 15 January , 2008 Share Posted 15 January , 2008 Fir Vale was the old Workhouse Hospital, since renamed the Northern General Hospital. Although there are modern bits added, the main long corridor still gives a workhouse impression. I've visited people there, and if cheerful surroundings are an aid to recovery, well, "abandon hope...." Edwin ps, wonder if you man had influenza.
