Paul Johnson Posted 23 January , 2004 Share Posted 23 January , 2004 Major Henry Ball HOLMES, 2nd Battalion. Royal Irish Fusiliers. Died Of Wounds on the 27th November 1915 and is buried in Lower Fahan, County Donegal, Ireland. Medal Entitlement: 1914/15 Star, British War Medal & Victory Medal Again, I can find no Service Record for Major Holmes. The Regimental diary does not mention him and I cannot understand why. This is a relatively senior officer and there should be some reference to his wound(s) or service. Additionally, if he served in an Irish Regiment and is buried in Ireland, then one assumes he was Irish. Therefore, what was his connection with Stevenage? His name is recorded on the Stevenage War Memorial yet local newspapers show no reports of his death. Why?? Am I looking in the right place? Is there someone who can help with this, please? Thanks Paul Johnson
Matt Dixon Posted 23 January , 2004 Share Posted 23 January , 2004 I have shed loads of research on this chap, as he was a pupil at my old school, All Saints, Bloxham, Banbury OXON. PM me off forum and I will send it to you. I also have a photo of him if you would like. Matt
Guest Desmond6 Posted 23 January , 2004 Share Posted 23 January , 2004 Looked up some Donegal genealogy sites and the Holmes family are listed as landowners in a list of 1879.
