Gunner R.A. Posted 30 November , 2007 Share Posted 30 November , 2007 On my local war memorial i have the following name, G H Vause. Having looked through local newspapers i found that a "G H Vause" enlisted in June 1915. On the official list of names to be included on the war memorial i have the following. Vause, George H. 3252, Machine Gunner, 3/4th West Yorks, the date of death is given as April 4th 1917. Now as we all know there is always the possibility of errors creeping into the details of the men given to the war memorial committee's by relatives etc. One thing that is strange about this mans details is that it states 3/4th West Yorks, as far as i am aware there was no 3/4th Bn, however there was a 3rd and 4th reserve Bn, however neither of these left the U.K. This man is not recorded on the CWGC site or SDITGW, if anyone who has access to the GRO Overseas Death Index could have a look and see if there is anyone with this name (or varient) and who might fit in with his details, any help or advice would be appreciated, regards, Pete.. Procat Posted 30 November , 2007 Share Posted 30 November , 2007 The Index to Army (other ranks) War Deaths 1914 - 1921 does not record an entry for G Vause or anything similar. Unfortunately my CD of overseas deaths stops at 1915. Doug

John_Hartley Posted 30 November , 2007 Share Posted 30 November , 2007 Pete Nothing obvious that I can see on the GRO Overseas. Bearing in mind what you say about his unit, you may be looking for a UK death. John

Gunner R.A. Posted 1 December , 2007 Author Share Posted 1 December , 2007 Couldn't find the death registered in the right period on Ancestry Thanks Stephen, i guess it is possible that the date could be wrong, i will have to look at every possibility, however the death should have occurred between 1915 and 1921, thanks, Pete. Not found in GRO Civil death registers for June Qtr. 1917. kevin Posted 4 December , 2007 Share Posted 4 December , 2007 Pete have gone through Wyrall's list and no G Vause's show up, the 3252 number seem's to be TF and then when you look at the number in the MIC you come up with this bunch, Medal card of Waites, John Corps: West Yorkshire Regiment Regiment No: 3252 Rank: Private... Medal card of McLindon, Bernard Corps: West Yorkshire Regiment Regiment No: 3252 Rank: Private... Medal card of Clark, John H Corps: West Yorkshire Regiment Regiment No: 3252 Rank: Private... Medal card of Anderson, James Corps: West Yorkshire Regiment Regiment No: 3252 Rank: Private Medal card of Anderson, Frederick Corps: West Yorkshire Regiment Regiment No: 3252 Rank: Private but there again if he did not serve overseas he will not show up in the MIC's, have you tried variant's on the name? Regards Kevin
Gunner R.A. Posted 4 December , 2007 Author Share Posted 4 December , 2007 Thanks for that Kev, i have tried the usual variants on the CWGC, i.e. Vorse, Vaux, etc but didn't seem to come up with anything. I guess i will just have to keep on searching, cheers, Pete.
