Remembered Today:

Travelling Dispersal Unit

I have a service record showing a man with the ASC MT Depot at Sydenham being "...dispatched to Travelling Dispersal Unit, Kelsey(?) Manor" on 22/1/19.

He appears to have been "dispersed" on the same day (stamp on his Protecton Certificate shows this date, but "Dispersal Unit Wimbledon"), for 28 days furlough, and then discharged to Class Z Reserve on 19/2/19.

What was this "Travelling Dispersal Unit" and why might he have been sent to it?

Kelsey(?) Manor

Yes.

In 1911 the Beckenham Council purchased Kelsey Park which was opened to the public in 1913. During the first world war the house was used for military purposes and was demolished in 1921. In 1933 the Council purchased part of the grounds of Cedar Lawn in Wickham Road and made an extension to the Park with a new entrance opposite Tudor Road that opened in 1936.
