Kirrawee Posted 15 November , 2007 Share Posted 15 November , 2007 Can anyone tell me what/where this hospital was? My grandfather was admitted to it from 25 CCS (which I see from other posts means Casualty Clearing Station). The record on his service sheet reads:– 22.7.17 49 Gen Hos. Admitted from 25 CCS (P U O) 10.4.16 And, what is PUO the abbreviation for? Also, another record reads 5.5.16 Admitted Hospl. N.Y.D. Salonika 1.5.16 What does N.Y.D. stand for, please? apwright Posted 15 November , 2007 Share Posted 15 November , 2007 Not entirely sure where No.49 General Hospital was in 1916, but by May 1917 it was up on the Hortiach Plateau about 8 miles east of the city. There were several hospitals up there, as well as the "Clean Air" convalescent camp. For pics of the area, see the last few posts in NYD means Not Yet Diagnosed PUO means Pyrexia (fever) of Unknown Origin Hope this helps, Adrian
