Remembered Today:

Charing Cross Hospital

I have a postcard 01 Oct 1918 addressed to my grandfather as follows:

24068

Pte A Dawe

1/5th Lanc Fusiliers

Charing Cross Hospital

Queen Victoria Ward

London

Does anyone have any information on this hospital? Are there such things as patient records or lists?

The Charing Cross Hospital then was situated close to Charing Cross Railway Station in Agar Street WC1 it was and still is a large imposing building. The hospital closed quite some time ago and moved to Hammersmith in West London (it is still called the Charing Cross Hospital). Knowing the NHS I would be surprised if any patient records survived from WW1.

The old hospital in Agar St was refurbished as Charing Cross Police Station in the early 90's.

Check the Hospital Records Database at:

Hospital Records Database

By entering the name of the hospital in the search box you will get details of all existing records. It seems that there are indeed some remaining patient records from the WW1 period kept at Charing Cross Hospital itself.
