Adrian Roberts Posted 8 November , 2007 Share Posted 8 November , 2007 Given that this is a report of a Field Artillery Battery that would be interested in the positions of enemy artillery, I imagine that it is a report of an aerial reconnaissance giving this positions, with most of the codes being grid references corresponding to the trench maps of the time. So, 1069 CB was an emplacement occupied by four guns. Today, AAA stands for Anti-Aircraft Artillery; presumably it meant the same at the time.
