SiegeGunner Posted 9 November , 2007 Share Posted 9 November , 2007 These are the three I have from Zeebrugge, one of which seems to be Fryatt's ship The Brussels was raised after the war, and the first of your three pics does look like her. Forum pal Cnock is our resident expert on Zeebrugge photos. The other two look like the blockships being salved/broken up. Thanks, DingleRoad, for posting your fascinating pictures. Althouse Posted 9 November , 2007 Share Posted 9 November , 2007 Fantastic photos. It just seems surreal to me. Especially the shoeless child in the doorstep in the Wilheim II photo. Paul
DingleRoad Posted 9 November , 2007 Author Share Posted 9 November , 2007 Thanks for all the replies guys ! My grandfather's sisters and parents had obviously gone to the battlefields to try and find out something of what my grandfather had to live through for 3 years. He ended up getting a MID and DSO after serving with the 5th Bat. West Riding regt and later attached to the 1/4 KOYLI.

roel22 Posted 9 November , 2007 Share Posted 9 November , 2007 Magnificent pics. Does anybody have a clue what eventually happened to the Kaiser Wilhelm II Battery?
Cnock Posted 9 November , 2007 Share Posted 9 November , 2007 Roel, (destroyed during German retreat WWI) guns were removed in 1939. It was a museum between the 2 world wars. Rearmed by the Belgians in 1940 with lighter guns regards, Cnock
SiegeGunner Posted 9 November , 2007 Share Posted 9 November , 2007 Cnock, What do you make of the other two 'Zeebrugge' pics? One seems to show the remains of Intrepid or Iphigenia, still lying across the inner channel, and the other appears to show the other blockships, cleared to one side of the channel and being broken up. best regards Mick
