Hi folks

I turned up a regimental number through the London Gazette that might be my Wally... hoping someone out there might be able to help with more info about him through the Reg records?

237093 Pte Evans,W., 1st Bn. (T.F.) (Ross)

I'm hoping the first name is Wallace, born 1872 in Ross; his brother Alfred was also in the 1/1st Hefs. Both brothers survived the war. Is there a kind soul with an interest in the Hefs that might be able to help me out?

Thanks for your time - it's greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Ger

Ger

I am afraid that the MM promulgation that you turned up was for a Walter:

Medal card of Evans, Walter

Corps Regiment No Rank

Hertforshire Regiment 237093 Private

The refernce to the Hertfordshire Regiment is probably a transcription error on the MIC index.

Anything's possible Wull - was that two C's after his first name? As far as I know he had no middle names. He's a world champion hide-and-seek player, though!

Thanks!

:) Ger

Herefordshire in the title but thereafter Hertfordshire Regiment .

I wonder if this is him

Description Medal card of Evans, Walter

Corps Regiment No Rank

Herefordshire Regiment 721 Private

Herefordshire Regiment 721 Private

a low original number which was later your 237093 (1917 renumberinfg of the TF) but was not included in the NA data base as apparently a different man ie a screw up over christian name or initial

Wow thanks folks! You're all so helpful! I believe Wallace's mother was Eliza and his father John. Just have to keep searching the needle in the haystack , I spose.

Thanks again for your time and effort, folks! Much appreciated!

Ger :)
