Hi to one and all.

Another name from the Shoreham WW1 list.

All we have is, pilot U/T RAeC Cert 1575 10-08-1915.

Not in The Sky, Communiques or the LG(?).

Can anyone help with info please?

Could this be Major Bernard Francis Vernon-Harcourt, The Welsh Regiment, appointed Flying Officer, R.F.C. LG 9th Sept 1915

There are Gazette entries for him:

4th Sept 1897 Second Lieutenant 4th Bn, South Wales Borderers

19th May 1899 Second Lieutenant Welsh Regiment

1st Mar 1912 Captain Bernard Francis Vernon Harcourt, The Welsh Regiment, to be Adjutant 9th (Cyclist) Battalion, Hampshire Regiment

Born 28th Dec 1877 Oxford

Son of Augustus George Vernon-Harcourt and his wife Hon Rachel Mary Bruce (d/o Sir Henry Austin Bruce 1st Baron Aberdare of Duffryn)

Home:- Aug. 1914: Major Bernard Francis Vernon-Harcourt, The Welsh Regiment, was appointed Flying Officer, R.F.C. 9.9.15. B.E.F. July 1915; (att RFC);

Home:- Flying Officer. July to Sept. 1915;

France:- Flight Commander October 1915 to March 1916;

Acting Squadron Commander, March to December 1916:

Appears in the 1927 AL Supplement as Major (WR) RARO, (Class II Reserve).(t).

In June 1916, 35 Squadron RFC, arrived at Narborough airfield from Thetford and pitched a number of bell-tents at the western extremity of the field, with Major B.F.Vernon-Harcourt in command.

35 Squadron. Was equipped with a variety of machines, FE2bs, Avro 504s, Vickers 'Gunbuses' and BE2c's.

He was born at Oxford on 23.12.1877, the son of Augustus George Vernon-Harcourt and his wife Hon Rachel Mary Bruce (daughter of Sir Henry Austin Bruce 1st Baron Aberdare of Duffryn) of Cowley Grange, Cowley, Oxfordshire.

He married Irene Margaret Nicholls, daughter of Sydney Nicholls, of Bayswater, on 23 April 1912. He secondly married Elizabeth Sommerhoff on 11 June 1935. He died on 19 May 1959 at age 81.

1914/15 Star (Major), BWM & VM to be iss'd by Air Min.
