AlanCurragh Posted 15 October , 2007 Share Posted 15 October , 2007 I'm researching 2nd Lt R W McIntyre of the 11th Bttn East Yorkshire Regiment, who died 25/07/1918. On CWGC, he is shown as having been awarded the MBE. To my mind, this seems unlikely for a 23 year old - I am presuming that MBE does refer to "Member of the Order of the British Empire", which were only institued by the King in June 1917. Does anyone know if MBE has another meaning, or has anyone else come across the award of an MBE to such a young, and middle ranking officer? Thanks for your help Alan
bushfighter Posted 15 October , 2007 Share Posted 15 October , 2007 Alan J.B.Hayward & Sons' "Honours & Awards Army Navy & Airforce 1914 - 1920" doesn't list your lad under the MBEs. It does list: McIntyre, Capt D., M.B.,R.A.M.C. Spec. Res. Good Luck Harry
AlanCurragh Posted 15 October , 2007 Author Share Posted 15 October , 2007 Thanks for checking, Harry - I think I'll need to have a look at his file at Kew.... Alan
Matthew B. Posted 16 October , 2007 Share Posted 16 October , 2007 Alan J.B.Hayward & Sons' "Honours & Awards Army Navy & Airforce 1914 - 1920" doesn't list your lad under the MBEs. It does list: McIntyre, Capt D., M.B.,R.A.M.C. Spec. Res. Good Luck Harry Harry, He would not be listed as he is dead - this listing in Haywards is a list of the living recipients. An WW1 MBE to a 2/Lt is uncommon but I have seen it before. On the LG website scottish surnames like McIntyre are a pain - the OCR gets corrupt. I will have a try at home tonight in my few books.
