Signals Posted 14 October , 2007 Share Posted 14 October , 2007 Hi All, i found this entry in the log of the Torpedo boat TB.24 for the 27th August 1914. Does anyone have any more information about this, did she strike a German or British mine? They then talk about picking up survivors from both Trawer #61 and #105 or 106. Cheers DB. Michael Lowrey Posted 14 October , 2007 Share Posted 14 October , 2007 Darren, German mines laid by SMS Albatross. The names of the two trawlers were Thomas W. Irvin and Crathie. Signals Posted 14 October , 2007 Author Share Posted 14 October , 2007 Hi Michael, once again thankyou, here is another from TB.24's log from the 6th September 1914. I have never been able to find what ship the Kolpino was as nothing fits what they have written. Darren.
Michael Lowrey Posted 14 October , 2007 Share Posted 14 October , 2007 Darren, Well certain not the SS Kolpino, as she wasn't sunk... but the SS Runo was mined 22 miles ExN off of the Tyne on September 5, 1914 while on a voyage from Hull for Archangelsk with general cargo. The reference to wreckage may be to debris from the sinking of that vessels on mines laid by Albatross back on August 26.
