Tracing a RN sailor of 1905

Have recently found out that a GT Grandfather who I know served in the Army at the Somme in WW1, had a career of a period of time in the Navy around 1905.

I say the RN as I know have a photo of him in the full RN uniform (well you can see the top of his uniform).

I understand that all pre 1924 sailors records are held in the NA, but I have no experience to date searching for naval records, so would appreciate any advice to where I start at the NA to find his records.

Not sure of length of service in the navy, have just his name and DOB to go on in 1905 !

Try the online search here. If you look in the Navy section of the forum you will see some examples of the Registers.

You can use his date of birth in the other section to narrow down the search.
