girlywhirl Posted 6 October , 2007 Share Posted 6 October , 2007 Hello everyone, I have just been given a photo of my great great grandmother Edith Smith (Robinson), from the war. Can anyone tell me what the uniform is? All I know about her is that she was born in 1889 in Leeds and married Henry Smith in 1912. I do not know if she was in any kind of war service, but from other photos I have, im pretty sure this one was taken during the great war. The badge has 5 initials on it, the second looks like a Y. Any help gratefully recieved. Chris

Tonym Posted 8 October , 2007 Share Posted 8 October , 2007 Chris Could the letters be something like "N.Y.&.?.S". Took a bit of eye strain but!!! Tony
girlywhirl Posted 9 October , 2007 Author Share Posted 9 October , 2007 the second letter is def a "Y" the first looks like a "R" or a "K" to me. I'm gonna have to do some more research! Cheers for everyone's help. Chris
Tonym Posted 14 October , 2007 Share Posted 14 October , 2007 The reason I suggested the first two letters as N & Y is, noting that she was born in Leeds and we appear to agree that it is possibly a clippies uniform I was trying to work out something like "North Yorkshire ? Transport Service". But then Leeds is not North Yorkshire, is it? Tony
girlywhirl Posted 15 October , 2007 Author Share Posted 15 October , 2007 Its just not clear enough on the photo. It would be a "W" I suppose for West Yorks. Perhaps we'll never know! Chris
