stevefogs Posted 27 September , 2007 Share Posted 27 September , 2007 Can anyone out there tell me if there ever was a " bounty paid" being in a sea battle in which enemy ships were sunk. My great uncles Royal Navy discharge scroll after world war 1 had ended, describes a bounty of 15 pounds being paid for having taken part in the battle of Jutland. Also for his ships part in the sinking of a German Minesweeper he was also paid 3 pounds. I could possibly believe this in the days of sail but during world war 1 ? historydavid Posted 27 September , 2007 Share Posted 27 September , 2007 Several RNR skippers of trawlers hired by the Admiralty, that sank or claimed to have sunk a U-boat, were paid lump sums in the region of £1,000. Best wishes David
