n cherry Posted 25 September , 2007 Share Posted 25 September , 2007 Does anyone know if the designer of the famous Kitchener pointing finger poster- Alfred Leete did any other memorable Great War posters?
Dragon Posted 25 September , 2007 Share Posted 25 September , 2007 It was Alfred Leete. The design started life as the cover of the magazine 'London Opinion', September 5th, 1914. He also made a version of the design with the magazine cover ephemera removed. It was then used as the basis for the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee Poster issued September 1914, with a modified text including the words 'God save the King', which apparently Kitchener insisted on as a sign-off on army advertising (according to the IWM book on First World War posters). Subsequent and modified versions appeared and even a button badge. I can scan small copies of some modifications if wished. Gwyn
