fitzee Posted 21 September , 2007 Share Posted 21 September , 2007 Can anyone give me info on the use of flares in World War 1. I know airmen carried a" Very" flare gun and have seen pictures of flare cartridges strapped to the sides of scout aircraft. I presume they came in three colors, green, red , and white "star". The red being a distress flare usually fired from a crippled machine. Was it common for a returning patrol to fire a flare to alert the aerodrome of their approach? Any info would be appreciated Fitzee
