Please can anyone help me of the loss of this vessel

HMS Recruit was a British R Class Destroyer. She was mined and sunk on 9th August 1917 in the North Sea.

Hello Chris

RECRUIT

British Navy .destroyer; 1916; W. Doxford & Co.; 1,075 tons;

276x26-7x9; 27,000 s.h.p.; 36knots; turbine engines; Yarrow

boilers; three 4 in. guns, one 2pdr., 1 m.g.9 4 T.T. The destroyer

Recruit was the second vessel of that name to be lost in the First

World War. On August 9th, 1917, she struck a mine and sank in the

North Sea. At the time of her loss she was carrying a complement

of about 100.

Dictionary of Disasters at Sea

J.J. Colledge gives it as sunk by UB16

Original HMS Recruit was a C Class Destroyer launched 1895 lost to UB16 on 1/5/1915 off the Galloper Light Vessel.

R Class Destroyer HMS Recruit launched 9/12/1916 lost by mine North Sea 9/8/1917.

Common error here. The following is correct:

Recruit, launched 1895, sunk on May 1, 1915 by UB 6 on her first patrol, not UB 16. (UB 16 wasn't operational until June 1915.)

Recruit, launched 1916, sunk on August 9, 1917 by UB 16.
