Remembered Today:

HMS Restless

I was given an ashtray/small bowl I assume made from some part of HMS Restless after she was broken up. Any body fill me in on whether the ship was in action. I know it was launched 1916 and broken up I think 1936. She was an r Class Destroyer with a crew of 82. I would be grateful for any further information .

Thank You

Tim

Tim, the Restless is not mentioned in the OH and the database shows she only lost one man through illness. So it would appear she didn't see action, only the endless patrolling which was the lot of so many warships.

Best wishes

David

It depends what you call action, you will need to check her logs for her movements. As David said "endless patrolling ... was the lot of so many warships;" also for destroyers they could be engaged in the UBoat war, for which there wasn't a battle honour in WWI and might not have resulted in deaths.

The only reference in Endless Story is to her being ordered, but even 'Taffrail' didn't mention every case of destroyer work.
