marc glorieux Posted 10 September , 2007 Share Posted 10 September , 2007 Anyone can give me information about H.M.Motor Launch “103” ? I am researching for the cause of death on 19/08/1917 of the Deck Hand CADE C D T (Royal Naval Reserve), service n° 13588/DA, and buried Herne Bay Cemetery. (info CWGC) Thanks Marc
historydavid Posted 10 September , 2007 Share Posted 10 September , 2007 Marc, this is his Admiralty death record: CADE, COLLIS D.T., DECK HAND, RNR, DA 13588, M L 103, H.M. Motor launch, 19-Aug-17, DROWNING. As far as I am aware ML 103 was not sunk on this date, so I presume Cade died an accidental death. marc glorieux Posted 12 September , 2007 Author Share Posted 12 September , 2007 thanks David for the info Was there in this time a link between "Herne Bay" and the R.N. (naval base) ? Marc
historydavid Posted 13 September , 2007 Share Posted 13 September , 2007 Marc, I don't whether ML 103 was stationed at Herne Bay at the time of Cade's death. Possibly another pal could provide that information. Cade is not listed as missing on any of the 3 Naval Memorials, so I presume his body was recovered. This opens up two possible options: 1. He was buried by the Navy, which would indicate ML 103 was at, or close to, Herne Bay. 2. His body was claimed and buried by relatives, which might indicate he/they came from the Herne Bay area. Sorry I can't be more specific. Best wishes David

Neil Clark Posted 28 September , 2007 Share Posted 28 September , 2007 Marc, This man is NOT listed on the local Herne Bay Civic War Memorial so it seems he probably died in the area where this motor launch was based? I have lent my book out "Dover Patrol" by Roy Humphries which does list the motor launches in the Dover Patrol. Perhaps someone else can check to see if it's mentioned. Here is the link to Herne Bay civic war memorial - http://www.kentfallen.com/PDF%20REPORTS/HERNE%20BAY.pdf / http://www.kentfallen.com/Kent%20War%20Memorials.html Good luck.
