Guest clevgary Posted 6 September , 2007 Share Posted 6 September , 2007 I recently found amongst my grandfather's possessions a watch with the inscription "To Nurse Scott in recognition of her kind attention to my late husband Robert Heitzman in his last illness, Cardiff, 1894." After showing the watch to a jeweller, he noticed it had been converted to a "trench watch" used by soldiers in the First World War. My grandfather was seriously wounded in France in 1917, losing an eye and receiving shrapnel wounds to the legs. He was evacuated to the 3rd London General Hospital, and later Harefield Hospital. I have his diary from that year but no mention is made of the watch, but my mother remembers him speaking fondly of a nurse who cared for him. I have traced Nurse Scott on the internet up to where she marries Ernest Luke....I think! If I can trace the living relatives of Nurse Luke (Scott), I would like to give them the watch. Can anybody be of assistance, please?
