Thought forum mrmbers may like to see this card. Belonged to a soldier in the 1/6 Glosters and is unused. Anyone have more info on UC5. The card is Crown Copyright on the back.

Successes 31 ships sunk for a total of 37.734 tons.

4 ships damaged for a total of 10.340 tons.

1 warship sunk for a total of 380 tons.

Fate 27 Apr, 1916 - Grounded on the Shipwash Shoal 5159N 0138E. Boat

scuttled but charges failed to explode.

UC 5 was scraped in 1923...scroll downhere for some pics of UC 5...

I seem to recall seeing this postcard before - it may well have been on a previous thread. Possibly late last year.

The most photographed of German submarines from WW1.

Captured intact with some of her mines, the UC5 would inspire Admiralty to fit some of the 'E' class boats out as minelayers designed on the same principle. UC 5 was very naughty and sank several British vessels with her mines - see Silent Warriors I.
