Remembered Today:

Vichte Cemetery

I have had an enquiry via my website from someone with a relative in this cemetery, who would like to know more about what was happening here in October 1918. This is one that I haven't been to; am presuming it was part of the fighting for Menin? Unfortunately I do not know what unit the casualty was in, nor his name, but I am alerting the enquirer to this posting, and hopefully he might add a bit more.

Details of the cemetery at:

Hello,

The fighting around Vichte is connected to the end of October 1918, after the fighting for Courtrai, and connected to the advance towards the river Scheldt.

Divisions involved could be: 9th Division (mainly) and 36th Division, according the info I have here. All villages in the area (Deerlijk, Otegem, Ingooigem, Anzegem, etc.) were stubbornly defended by the Germans and only taken after hard fighting.

Regards,

Jan
