Paul Reed Posted 8 January , 2004 Share Posted 8 January , 2004 I have had an enquiry via my website from someone with a relative in this cemetery, who would like to know more about what was happening here in October 1918. This is one that I haven't been to; am presuming it was part of the fighting for Menin? Unfortunately I do not know what unit the casualty was in, nor his name, but I am alerting the enquirer to this posting, and hopefully he might add a bit more. AOK4 Posted 8 January , 2004 Share Posted 8 January , 2004 Hello, The fighting around Vichte is connected to the end of October 1918, after the fighting for Courtrai, and connected to the advance towards the river Scheldt. Divisions involved could be: 9th Division (mainly) and 36th Division, according the info I have here. All villages in the area (Deerlijk, Otegem, Ingooigem, Anzegem, etc.) were stubbornly defended by the Germans and only taken after hard fighting. Regards, Jan
