Is it possible to tell from service numbers when the man enlisted,

If it is possible could someone help me out with these 3

Atherton G SS/5985

Banks A K/33288

Bayman H SS/8770

If you click on the catalogue reference, it says when the register (huge books 500 service numbers to a book) was opened so if the data has been entered correctly Atherton received his number in 1914, Banks 1916 and Bayman 1918.

Atherton probably received a 1914-15 Star trio. The naval medal rolls are offline in ADM 171.
